Arsenal are reportedly lining up a shock January swoop for Watford talisman Troy Deeney.

The Premier League giants; who currently lead the standings by two points after their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend, are thought to be fans of the powerhouse striker, who has impressed during his debut campaign in the English top-flight this term.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Hornets from League One side Walsall back in August 2010 for an initial £250,000, has scored six and assisted five goals in 20 league games for Quique Sanchez Flores’ men so far this season.

With Arsene Wenger’s side in pole position to claim their first Premier League title in 12 years, the Frenchman wants to add an extra striker to his squad during the New Year transfer window to ensure side fend off rivals Leicester City and Manchester City until May.

Deeney, who only signed a new five-year deal at Vicarage Road during the summer, is thought to be valued at around £20m by the Gunners.
