Arsenal are reportedly set to begin discussions with Wales international Aaron Ramsey over a new deal, according to the Telegraph.

The Gunners, who finished fifth in the English top-flight last term, missing out on subsequent qualification for the UEFA Champions League, will open contract talks with the central midfielder in order to avoid a repeat next summer of uncertainty surrounding their star players.

The 26-year-old, who has 46 international caps for The Dragons, scored four goals and provided five assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last season – including the winner in their 2-1 FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea last month.

Ramsey, who arrived at the North London outfit back in 2008 following his move from Cardiff City, has netted 48 goals in 299 games overall for Arsenal, winning three FA Cups and two FA Community Shields under manager Arsene Wenger.

The report suggests The Gunners are eager to keep hold of the Welshman at the Emirates Stadium, and given the ongoing doubt surrounding the futures of team-mates Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer due to their expiring contracts, Arsenal are prepared to enter early talks over a new deal for Ramsey.

His current £100,000-a-week deal expires in the summer of 2018.
