Arsenal could reportedly make a surprising move for France international forward Anthony Martial, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners, who finished fifth in the English top-flight this term, missing out on subsequent qualification for the UEFA Champions League, have been linked with the Manchester United striker, should they miss out on landing top target Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco.

The 21-year-old, who has 15 international caps for his country, scored just eight goals and provided eight assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils last season.

Fellow Arsenal target Mbappe.

Martial, who arrived at Old Trafford back in 2015 following his switch from Monaco, in a deal that was worth up to £58m, has netted 25 times in 91 games overall for United, but he has ultimately fallen out-of-favour under manager Jose Mourinho.

The report suggests Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could switch his attention to Martial’s services, should fellow Frenchman Mbappe opt against joining the North Londoners before the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

It is suggested that The Gunners would be prepared to offer United £40m for Martial.
