Wednesday night saw two games in the Championship, with both ties ending in dramatic style.

Aston Villa’s slow start to the season continued following a 1-1 draw at home with Brentford. Summer signing Jonathan Kodjia put the hosts ahead in the first-half, but Roberto Di Matteo’s side were unable to hold on.

For the second successive game, a late equaliser cost them victory. John Egan’s strike earned the Bees a draw and lifts Dean Smith’s men up to eighth. Villa remain down in 17th spot.

The evening’s other game between Rotherham United and Nottingham Forest ended in a 2-2 draw and it was another game of late drama. Jon Taylor opened the scoring for the Millers, but after Matt Mills’ second-half equaliser, the game opened up.

Darnell Fisher’s red card gave Forest a numerical advantage and they took full advantage of that when Apostolos Velios netted with just five minutes remaining. The former Everton striker’s stunning effort was his second goal in his last two games for his new club.

However the game had one big final finish, as Taylor’s second of the night gained a point for Alan Stubbs’ side and lifted the hosts out of the bottom three. Forest move up to tenth as a result of the stalemate.
