Andy Halliday has been told that he is free to leave Rangers.

According to a report in The Sun the midfielder has been told that he has no future at Ibrox despite having a contract that runs until 2020.

Halliday started only two of the 11 matches that Pedro Caixinha was in charge for as the new Ibrox boss assessed the squad that he inherited from Mark Warburton.

While Caixinha appears to have some bold plans for the future carrying them out will e a different matter with Halliday among those given new long term deals last summer by Mark Warburton.

Halliday was a regular in centre midfield as Rangers stormed to the Championship in 2016 but has struggled to cope with the step up to the Premiership.

The 25-year-old boyhood Rangers fan is likely to return to England where he had spells at Middlesbrough and Bradford but unless the terms are acceptable he may dig in to get a pay off before quitting Ibrox.
