Every team wants a Vardy apparently. Well if you listen to the media reports that’s what it feels like. He’s been linked with every so called ‘big club’ including the top ones in the Premier League and La Liga.

Well if you want him he isn’t going to come cheap. He has just beaten Ruud van Nistelrooy’s 12-year-old record by scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games. He has netted 13 in those 11 games – a remarkable feat.

I was there at the start when he won and scored the penalty away to Bournemouth. Living in the area and only being able to get a ticket with the ‘home’ fans, I was unable to celebrate as I was sat behind the goal into which Vardy scored. If you pause your TV recording of Match of the Day, you can actually see me sat there grumpy at not being able to celebrate while all the away fans were just 10 yards away from me doing just that. Little did I know what I had just witnessed.

The Aston Villa comeback was his second game followed by the Stoke draw. Despite losing the next game to Arsenal, he still managed to grab a couple followed by the penalty away at Norwich City.

Being two goals down didn’t stop him either as he scored a header and grabbed the equaliser to grab a 2-2 draw with Southampton. The winner against Crystal Palace in the game where the team finally won their pizzas continued his amazing run.

Proving you can’t keep a good man down, he scored the winner against West Brom despite being taken off the pitch injured. An amazing gesture from team-mate Riyad Mahrez saw him score from the penalty spot against Watford, he finally equalled the ex-Manchester United player’s record with the first goal against Newcastle United.

Then came the game against Van Nistelrooy’s old team, Manchester United. Let’s face it, you couldn’t write it. But history was written when he scored to take the record outright, although he is still one off Jimmy Dunne’s all-time ‘top-flight’ record of 12 games. Be very afraid Swansea.

What makes Vardy’s record all the more impressive is that he has done it all in one season, where as Van Nistelrooy’s was over two.

So, the press reports linking him with other clubs continues, and it goes with the territory I suppose. Now we all know contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. If a player wants a move the chances are it will happen. Yes there has been a few exceptions, but could this be about to change?

Vardy has been linked with moves to the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Next season when the new TV deal comes in, Premier League clubs will be richer than ever before. So when the Man City’s and Chelsea’s come knocking, the so-called smaller clubs will not have to answer the door.

Leicester are also no longer a selling club with our Thai owners having a bob or two to spend on the club. So the reputed £15m price tag, reported a while ago, wouldn’t even buy Vardy’s left leg right now.

If Leicester’s good run of form, which was maintained against a Manchester United team who were odds on to beat us, continues come the end of the season, Jamie might just be able to dust down his passport and have a European party with the Foxes.
