Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are eyeing up a club-record £50 million bid for Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita this summer, according to The Liverpool Echo.

The 22-year-old played a pivotal role in the Bundesliga outfit’s charge to second place in the German top-flight, bagging eight goals and laying on seven assists in just 31 appearances to clinch Champions League football for the club next term.

The Guinea international, who scored 17 goals in 59 games for Red Bull Salzburg before signing for Leipzig last summer, has been one of the most impressive performers in European football this summer, and as a result has attracted interest from Klopp’s Liverpool.

And although Leipzig have stamped a £50 million price-tag on Keita, the Reds are reportedly willing to break their club-record transfer fee, the £38 million they spent on Newcastle’s Andy Carroll in 2011, to land the 22-year-old midfield sensation this summer.

The Merseyside outfit will also be playing Champions League football next term after finishing fourth in the Premier League, and Klopp will undoubtedly be wanting to strengthen his squad ahead of a crucial campaign on the both the European and domestic front.

And Keita appears to be one man the Reds boss desperately wants to bring through the doors at Anfield, so much so that they have reportedly begun talks with the midfielder’s representatives over a potential deal.

Clearly, Keita is the calibre of player Liverpool need to sign ahead of next season, and the fact they are willing to break their record transfer fee says a lot about how highly Klopp rates the midfielder.
