Liverpool are confident of landing a deal for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez, ahead of rivals Manchester United, should they make the top four this season.

According to reports from The Daily Mirror, the Merseysiders have re-ignited their interest in the Colombian attacking midfielder, who joined Madrid after his stunning performances in the 2014 World Cup in Rio.

The Reds have long admired the 25-year-old, and now believe that they are in with a shot of engineering a deal this time around.

As per the report, Rodriguez has fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu under the guise of manager Zinedine Zidane and is prepared to move along.

Fierce rivals Manchester United are reportedly considering a £60m move for the midfielder in the summer, however, manager Jurgen Klopp is prepared to top that with an offer supposedly in the region of £65m.

The Madrid man has made just 14 appearances in La Liga this term, scoring twice and setting up five.
