Liverpool have reportedly been told that they must pay more than £50 million if they are to sign Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira, according Shakhtar chief executive, Sergei Palkin, via the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the prolific Brazilian this month, and Palkin says the Merseyside outfit submitted a bid of £24 million plus £3 million of add-ons.

However, the Ukrainian club rejected that and claim the 26-year-old’s release clause is around £53 million, and they aren’t prepared to accept any less if their star man is to leave before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Teixeira has scored 26 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions this term.

We definitely need a striker like right now. Bentekes showing in the west ham draw was nothing less than atrocious. 32mil for that? Serious waste of space on our beloved anfield turf.
