Former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand has taken aim at Arsenal’s players for the manner in which they celebrated their 6-0 routing of Ludogorets on Wednesday night.

The ex-England international, who was working as a pundit for BT Sport covering the game, was less than please with the celebrations after goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and first Arsenal hat-trick for Mesut Ozil, sunk their lowly Bulgarian opposition.

The Gunners, who have fallen foul of European banana skins in the past, were evidently please with their victory and the German international took to Twitter to share the dressing room jubilation:

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Champions League winner Ferdinand said:

“I have said it before, I wouldn’t be doing that until I have got my hands on a trophy,

“If that is what the boys want to do…it’s a new age.”

His angle was also one taken by former Man City man, Richard Dunne – also on the BT Sport panel – who added:

“It’s great when you win something but not a group stage in a competition.

“Arsenal have always been undone by not winning trophies.”

It could be argued that Ozil was well within his rights, having scored his first ever treble, however it could come back to bite the Gunners should they stumble once again.

This is becoming such a non-story. First we hear that todays modern players are robots and don’t engage with fans.. now we’re told that they shouldn’t post for their thousands of followers on social media.. Rio and Dunne should realise that they sound like a pair of ‘back in my day’ dinosaurs! And Richard Dunne can’t ever comment about winning trophies!
