Manchester United are reportedly willing to stump up £50m to sign England international John Stones next summer.

The 13-time Premier League champions, who were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after their 3-2 defeat at Wolfsburg in midweek, are lining up a big money move for the Everton centre-half at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The 21-year-old, who has seven international caps for the Three Lions, has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Roberto Martinez’s Toffees so far this season.

Stones, who arrived at Goodison Park from League One side Barnsley back in January 2013, was pursued by league champions Chelsea over the course of the summer transfer window, although Jose Mourinho’s Blues failed with three bids of up to £38m.

The England star even submitted a transfer request to force through a move to Stamford Bridge earlier this year, although Everton held firm over their prized asset.

However Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is willing to test their resolve once more next summer by attempting to make Stones the world’s most expensive defender.
