Manchester United are reportedly considering launching a £54million bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to the Daily Mail via the Independent.

New Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is already identifying potential targets this summer as he looks to boost a squad that missed out on Champions League football last term, and is said to be keen on triggering the 21-year-old’s £54m release clause.

The midfielder has consistently impressed under Diego Simeone at Atletico over the course of the last two seasons, and scored a stunning solo goal in his club’s Champions League semi-final first leg win over Bayern Munich last month, which helped them reach the final against arch-rivals, Real Madrid, on Saturday night.

Niguez, who can play out wide as well as in the middle, has made 69 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side since making his debut at the age of 17 in 2012, scoring 12 goals.
