An ever-present for the Hammers in December, Tomkins played a key role in helping the club maintain their challenge for European football. Good on the ball, but not afraid of a challenge, the 26-year-old has played at both full-back and centre-back throughout the month.

  • Name: Ryan Shawcross
Stoke’s attacking prowess may be capturing headlines currently but Shawcross’s form throughout December has been crucial to their success. The largely unheralded Englishman guided Stoke to three clean sheets in December, most impressively against the two Manchester clubs.

  • Name: Scott Dann
The Englishman has continued his superb form this season into December. A goal against Everton was followed by clean sheets against Southampton, Bournemouth and Swansea respectively. The 28-year old’s impressive performances will certainly have not gone unnoticed by Roy Hodgson.

The Algerian kept up his sensational run of form in December. Mahrez started the month with a fine hat-trick versus Swansea before producing match-winning performances against Chelsea and Everton. The sight of the 24-year-old dribbling strikes fear into defenders and the club must ensure they keep hold of him during the transfer window.

Inconsistency had characterised Ozil’s Arsenal career up until recently but the German is now exhibiting his world-class quality. December has been a constant stream of assists, well-taken goals and man-of-the-match performances from the 27-year-old, propelling Arsenal to the Premier League summit.

After recovering from injury, Harry Arter started to show he is easily capable of becoming a regular in the Premier League during December. Fantastic displays in wins against Chelsea, Manchester United and West Brom as the Cherries collected 10 points from five matches in the month. Even more remarkably, the London-born star put in some top displays following the death of his daughter.
Xherdan Shaqiri

The Swiss has taken a while to settle in the Premier League however the former Bayern Munich man has been in electrifying form this month. Two assists versus Manchester City, a busy performance against Manchester United and two excellent goals away at Everton, demonstrated his quality.

Recent results may not be satisfying the Goodison Park faithful however the recent exploits of the Belgian certainly will be. Always a physical presence, Lukaku scored five goals across December. Roberto Martinez will be praying that he can continue his excellent form in 2016.

The Nigerian enjoyed a remarkable December, where he scored in every single fixture – six in five matches - to help Watford register three victories and a respectable draw away to Chelsea. A constant threat to opposition defences, Ighalo has emerged as one of the league’s foremost strikers and he will surely attract interest from other clubs in January.

A draw against in-form Crystal Palace and defeat at table toppers Arsenal were Bournemouth's only dropped points in the month.
