Manchester United have been handed a significant boost in their reported interest to re-sign Portugal international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Daily Record.

The Premier League side, who finished sixth in the top-flight table last term, but defeated Ajax in the 2017 UEFA Europa League final to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, have been linked with luring the Real Madrid forward back to Old Trafford this summer, with the player eyeing a Bernabeu exit.

The 32-year-old, who has 140 international caps for his country and is currently with Portugal at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia, scored an incredible 42 goals and provided 12 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga champions last season.

United legend Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, who arrived at The Theatre of Dreams back in 2003 following his switch from Sporting Lisbon, scored 118 goals in 291 games for United overall prior to his move to Madrid in 2009, lifting three Premier League titles, two League Cups, the Champions League and the FA Cup, among other honours.

However, the Portuguese legend wants out of Spain following tax fraud claims, and the report suggests Ronaldo’s only Premier League destination would be The Red Devils, if he were to return to English football ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
