Southampton eye surprise move for captain of Inter Milan

According to reports in Italy, Southampton are lining up an audacious bid to sign Inter Milan captain Andrea Ranocchia.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman is desperate to strengthen his defence before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, and has been heavily linked with a move for Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

However, it is understood that should that deal break down, they are ready to make an offer for the Italy international, who is also interesting their Premier League rivals, Everton.

Despite being skipper with the San Siro outfit, it is believed that the Serie A outfit are willing to let Ranocchia leave this summer if they receive a suitable fee.
