Sunderland are reportedly closing in on the permanent signing of Bayern Munich defender, Jan Kirchhoff.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce is desperate to strengthen a defence that has conceded 39 goals in 20 Premier League games this term, the most in the division.

Kirchhoff (L) looks set to make the move to the Stadium of Light.

The Mackems manager has stepped up his interest in the the German champions’ centre-back in recent days, and a deal for the 25-year-old now looks to be close.

Kirchhoff has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Bayern, while also spending 18 months out on loan at Bundesliga outfit, Schalke.
