Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is set to be the next Spurs star to put pen to paper on a new deal at the club as they look to tie down the core of their squad this season.

According to reports from the Evening Standard, after supposed tensions between the Belgian and manager Mauricio Pochettino following their opening Champions League defeat to Monaco, he will commit his long-term future to the club within weeks.

A deal for the 29-year-old follows fellow teammates Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker all signing on the dotted line.

The former Ajax man has racked up 173 appearances for the North London club since his move in 2012 and is a crucial part of the most revered defensive pairing in the Premier League.

He has played a key role in Spurs’ solid start to the season as they remain the only unbeaten team in the top flight this season.
