Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, in an attempt to temper his defensive crisis, according to Bleacher Report journalist, Dean Jones.

The Gunners are currently without centre-halves Per Mertersacker and Gabriel Paulista, who are sidelined through knee and ankle injuries respectively, whilst 21-year-old defender, Calum Chambers has been told he is free to leave The Emirates on loan.

According to BR, the 22-year-old could be available to Le Prof for around £15m, a bargain considering the Gooners have seen prices soar wherever they go due to their desperate need for numbers at the back.

The DR Congo international only arrived at St James’ Park last season, making 38 appearances for the Magpies, but was powerless to prevent their relegation to the Championship.

Having already lost key players, Georginio Wijnaldum, Andros Townsend and Daryl Janmaat to Premier League sides, the Toon Army boss, Rafa Benitez, would be reluctant to let the former Anderlecht man leave as he looks to guide the club to an instant return to the top flight.

No chance. Can’t see United choosing to sell Mbemba.

Jog on Arse-ene – look elsewhere
