Matt Phillips is now QPR’s top goalscorer in the Championship following the sale of Charlie Austin to Southampton earlier this month.

With the close of the January transfer window fast approaching, West Brom face a race against time if they are to strengthen their squad this month.

However one particular player who has been constantly linked with a New Year switch to The Hawthorns is Championship forward Matt Phillips.

The 24-year-old, who has two international caps for Scotland, has scored five and assisted four goals in 28 league games for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Queens Park Rangers this season.

With QPR reportedly determined to offload Phillips’ large salary this month; the Baggies could snap up the dynamic winger for around £7m-£8m before Monday’s deadline, with his attacking prowess sure to help Tony Pulis’ side stave off relegation come May.

However West Brom face stiff competition from fellow Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth and Championship leaders Middlesbrough for Phillip’s signature.
