Defender Hector Bellerin is reportedly close to putting pen to paper on a new contract with Arsenal, according to The Guardian.

The 21-year-old full-back, who has three international caps for Spain, despite surprisingly missing out on their latest squad to face England next week at Wembley Stadium in an international friendly, has provided one assist in 14 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners so far this season.

Bellerin; who has impressed for Arsenal so far this 2016/17 campaign, with Arsene Wenger’s side fourth in the Premier League table, two points adrift of new league leaders Liverpool, is set to extend his contract at the Emirates Stadium after productive talks with the London outfit.

The right-back arrived from La Liga giants FC Barcelona back in 2011 and still has three years remaining on his current deal, but speculation has arisen of Barca wanting to re-sign the Spaniard ahead of the January transfer window.

The player’s agent, Albert Botines, told The Guardian, “Hector is very happy at Arsenal.

“This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress.”
