Newcastle United are seeking an immediate return to the Premier League following last season’s disastrous campaign in the top-flight.

The Magpies, under the stewardship of Steve McClaren for the majority of the season, were relegated by North East rivals Sunderland before the final game of the campaign, which they eventually won 5-1 against Tottenham.

Nevertheless, their relegation was met by disdain from many Magpies fans but, once manager Rafa Benitez committed to managing the club in the Championship, they became a whole lot more optimistic. Mix that in with some of the signings they have made, like Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle, and it looks inevitable that Newcastle will win promotion this season.

They currently sit top of the division with ten wins from their first 14 league games, three points clear of Brighton and Huddersfield Town.

Benitez’s side go to Preston, whom they beat 6-0 in the League Cup on Tuesday, on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the top, and step ever closer to returning to the Premier League.

However, Benitez may still feel that he needs reinforcements going into the second half of the season, so here are THREE forwards he could look to bring in during the January transfer window…
