3 potential replacements for Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez was dropped from the Arsenal side for their trip to Liverpool on Saturday, with manager Arsene Wenger citing a tactical switch as the reason for taking his top-scorer out of the side.

However, it has emerged that the Chilean international was actually dropped because of a training ground bust-up last week, in which several Arsenal teammates reportedly confronted the 28-year-old as they returned to the changing rooms.

With Sanchez’s future at the Emirates unclear anyway, given that he has yet to agree a new deal with the North London outfit, this would hardly have helped the cause in trying to keep the 17-goal Premier League man at the club.

The attacker has scored 20 goals and laid on 12 assists in 35 games in all competitions this season, and it was he who made a difference when coming off the bench against the Reds on Saturday, although his assist for Danny Welbeck turned out to be too little too late for the Gunners, who were already 2-0 down at the break.

Although Sanchez and manager Wenger were seen shaking hands this morning ahead of training, speculation has arisen about the 28-year-old’s future at Arsenal, with many expecting him to leave this summer.

Thus, the Gunners will have to turn their attentions to finding someone who can replace the goals, assists, and overall attacking qualities that Sanchez brings, so here are THREE players who could be potential replacements for the Chilean…

Alexandre Lacazette

Alexandre Lacazette has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and it may be a deal the Gunners have to get done in the summer should Sanchez leave the club.

The Lyon forward has been in sensational form for the French side this term, netting 22 goals in Ligue 1, only Edinson Cavani has scored more (27), while his tally in all competitions this season is 27, having also netted in the Champions League and Europa League.

This adds to the 23 goals he scored in the 2015/16 campaign, and he is closing in on the 31 he netted in the 2014/15 season, his best at Lyon since making his debut all the way back in 2009.

Clearly, the 25-year-old is in the form of his life and would surely relish the chance of playing in the Premier League, but with Liverpool and Tottenham also thought to be interested, Wenger may need to get a deal done fast for the forward in the summer.

Isco

Isco’s future at Real Madrid still remains unresolved after the midfielder last month admitted that he’ll make a decision based on his playing time between now and May.

The 24-year-old has started just 12 of their 25 La Liga games so far this term, and with just 67 minutes of action in the Champions League as well, it’s not looking likely that the midfielder is going to break into the first team regularly any time soon.

The Spanish international was once again a substitute in their win at Eibar on Saturday, despite netting in his previous appearance for Zinedine Zidane’s side, and his future was subject to much interest throughout January, with Premier League sides Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea reportedly interested in his services.

With Barcelona also thought to be monitoring the midfielder, Wenger will have to act fast if he is to secure Isco’s signature and bring him to the Emirates in the summer.

Marco Reus

German international Marco Reus has struggled with injury for much of the current campaign, and looks set for another spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring issue in Borussia Dortmund’s 6-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

Nonetheless, the 27-year-old has proven over the last few years that he is one of the most talented attackers in world football, and although this season has been frustrating, his record in previous campaigns is sensational.

The former Monchengladbach man has scored 76 goals in his four full seasons at Dortmund since moving there in 2012, and has been a hugely integral member of the side that reached the Champions League final in 2013.

The two-times Bundesliga Player of the Year has long been linked with Arsenal, and with Chelsea and Liverpool also circling the attacker who could leave Dortmund this summer, Wenger will have to get a deal done fast to stave off interest and secure Reus’ signature, as he’s a player that could certainly come in and replace Sanchez’s goals and assists at the club.
