Southampton are set to hand Willy Caballero his debut for the club in this weekend’s Premier League match against Arsenal.

The 40-year-old signed for the Saints on a short-term deal on Monday with current first-team goalkeepers Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster both sidelined.

And boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that the Argentine is in line to start against the Gunners at the Emirates on Saturday.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has goalkeeper issues.

“We are really pleased to have him here,” the Austrian told reporters.

“We were looking at a few options and he was by far the best for us.

“He’s a smart guy, a top professional, very fit. He comes in with a real willingness to help us.

“He is a very good package. He knows how to play behind a high defensive line and he’s good on the ball.

“It’s very likely he will start at Arsenal.

Caballero has not played a senior match since leaving Chelsea at the end of last season.

In his spells at Stamford Bridge and previously with Man City, the stopper made 34 Premier League appearances.

Southampton are aiming to end a run of four matches without a win in North London, while the hosts have lost their previous two.
