5 things we learned from Chelsea v Southampton

Saints’ struggles

The defeat for Southampton means that they have only picked up seven out of a possible 18 points in their last six matches.

They’ve only beaten Crystal Palace and West Brom in their last six, having drawn against South Coast rivals AFC Bournemouth and losing their other three matches against Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Claude Puel’s side have been struggling to pick up victories recently, and their tough recent fixtures have contributed to this.

Unfortunately for Southampton, it is not going to get much easier in terms of their tricky run-in to the end of the season.

Their last six games include four home games against Hull City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Stoke City, as well as two away games against Liverpool and Middlesbrough.

Realistically, Puel’s side don’t have a lot to play for and the majority of their upcoming fixtures come against sides that are going to be desperate for wins.

Southampton fans should not be too disheartened as they still have a chance of beating some of the best sides in country before the season ends next month.
