The English top flight season starts on Saturday with Premier League champions Manchester City facing FA Cup holders Manchester United in the curtain-raising Community Shield.

City’s league triumph last term meant they became the first team in history to win four consecutive English top flight titles, although they failed to retain their FA Cup crown after defeat against the Red Devils in the final at Wembley.

That win appeared to have saved United boss Erik ten Hag from the sack, with the Dutchman having since signed a new deal with the club.

The Citizens will go into Saturday’s match at Wembley as strong favourites, although United could hand a debut so new signing Joshua Zirkzee, who joined from Italian side Bologna earlier this summer.

One player that might not be involved in the game, though, is Man United’s Jadon Sancho, who could be closing in on a move away from the club.

According to Football Insider, the winger is increasingly likely to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain before the end of the current window.

Sancho could join French giants PSG before the end of the window

Sancho initially joined United from German side Borussia Dortmund in 2021, having scored 50 goals and provided 64 assists over four successful seasons with the Bundesliga outfit.

He endured a frustrating first two seasons at Old Trafford, though, before a public fall out with Ten Hag early last season prompted the Dutchman to oust the player from his squad.

Sancho, 24, then didn’t play until January, when he returned to Dortmund on loan and helped the club reach the final of the Champions League, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.

It is claimed that, while Sancho has been reintegrated into the first team squad at Old Trafford, he could still depart this summer as United look to offload players.

If they do sell the winger, though, the Manchester club will almost certainly have to take a significant loss on the £73 million that they paid to land Sancho three years ago.
