Italian giants AC Milan are set to make a January bid for out of favour Manchester United central defender Eric Bailly, according to ESPN.

The 24-year-old looked all set to cement his place in the side when arriving in 2016 for £30million from La Liga outfit Villarreal.

In his first season the defender featured heavily as the Red Devils won both the League Cup and Europa League.

But the excitement at Old Trafford was short-lived as the Ivorian has lost his spot to Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof in recent weeks.

Jose Mourinho has spent the early part of this season struggling to find his best centre back pairing.

Bailly was Jose Mourinho’s first signing of his managerial reign, but it is now thought he will have a decision on whether or not he wants to keep his player.

The sale of the centre-back could pave the way for Mourinho to bring in a replacement he so desperately wanted in the summer.

A lot can change between now and January, but with the Serie A giants showing interest and Bailly still struggling for game time, the writing could be on the wall for the defender.
