West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has thrown his future at the club into doubt by stating that they ‘must fight for higher targets’ to persuade him to stay, reports Spanish agency EFE (via Football.London).

The 30-year-old was a key part of the Hammers side which secured a sensational seventh place finish in the Premier League last season, and started this season as the number one at the London Stadium before a sting of errors saw him lose his place to Darren Randolph.

However, Ireland international Randolph didn’t fare much better, and the Spaniard reclaimed the gloves in their 0-0 draw with Everton last month, and has been between the sticks since.

Nonetheless, with his contract up in the summer, and rumours circulating about potential interest from his homeland, Adrian has laid down the gauntlet to the Hammers ahead of triggering a two-year extension on his deal.

He said: ‘The club have the option to renew me for two more years and I have already been told that they have an interest in making it effective.

‘I want to know the intentions of the club about me and see their project.

‘We must fight for higher targets and not just for staying in the Premier League. This is my fourth season here and I want to fight for something else.’

This news is sure to interest West Ham fans given their frustrating campaign under boss Slaven Bilic this term, a campaign which will see them finish no higher than ninth, and at one stage even looked like being a disastrous one as they almost got sucked into a relegation battle.

Factors certainly haven’t helped the club – their new ground the London Stadium hasn’t been a happy hunting ground and the sale of Dimitri Payet in January was a big loss – yet the pressure is firmly on as several of those players know that the club is capable of finishing higher up in the Premier League.

And Adrian has certainly made it clear that he wants to see ambition this summer and in the years to come if he is to pledge his future to West Ham.
