AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Australia international defender Brad Smith.

The Premier League side; who host Manchester United on the opening weekend of the forthcoming 2016/17 English top-flight campaign, have signed the left-back on a four-year deal following his £3m move from Liverpool, according to the Bournemouth Echo.

The 22-year-old, who has nine international caps for his country, scored one goal and provided two assists in 11 appearances in all competitions for the Reds since making his first-team debut against Chelsea back in December 2013.

Smith becomes the second Liverpool player to leave Anfield for the Cherries this summer following winger Jordon Ibe’s club-record £15m transfer.

Bournemouth’s chief executive Neill Blake told the club’s official website, “I am delighted to confirm that we have completed a deal to bring Brad to the football club.

“Brad broke through at Anfield last season and impressed whenever he was called upon.

“He is another excellent young player that we believe can progress under Eddie and Jason’s guidance, but he also brings with him experience of playing at the highest level in both the Premier League and on the international stage with the Socceroos.

“It is an exciting time for us as we bring yet another promising prospect into our progressive squad.”
