Manchester United returned to winning ways on Thursday evening as they ran out 3-1 victors over Burnley at Old Trafford.

Goals from Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo put the Red Devils in a commanding three goal lead in the first half, before Aaron Lennon’s goal for the Clarets briefly threatened a comeback.

Ralf Rangnick’s side held on, however, to give the German his third league win as United boss and ensure the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United last time out was nothing more than a one-off.

Ronaldo netted his eighth Premier League goal of his second spell as a United player, and also set up McTominay’s opener, but was left visibly frustrated after missing a number of other glaring opportunities.

The 36-year-old has so far managed a total of 14 goals in his first season back in England, and also amassed three assists.

Now, however, the player’s agent has had to publicly rubbish reports suggesting that the Portugal international wanted to leave the club already.

Jorge Mendes told Sky Sports that “Cristiano Ronaldo is very happy at Manchester United”, slamming reports in recent weeks that have suggested that the player is not happy with Rangnick’s style of play.

“He’s going to continue with his solid, great performances as always in his career. It’s going to be a great season for him, I’m sure.”

Reports had suggested that the forward was growing frustrated with life in Manchester and had decided that a move away was his preference.

A number of clubs had been touted as possible destinations for the striker if he did depart Old Trafford for a second time, with a return to Real Madrid, who he left United for the first time around, rumoured to be most likely.

The former Juventus man, who made a sensational return to Old Trafford over the summer, scored 118 goals during his first stint in England, before leaving the club in 2009 for a then-record fee of £80 million.
