Arsenal’s summer rebuild looks set to move a step further this week with Brighton’s Ben White undergoing a medical ahead of a reported £50 million move from the south coast to the capital.

The 23-year-old, who was included in England’s Euro 2020 squad but didn’t feature for Gareth Southgate’s side, will be Arsenal’s second summer signing following the acquisition of Benfica full-back Nuno Tavares.

The signings are part of Mikel Arteta’s plan to rebuild the club’s current squad around the likes of Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey and Bukayo Saka.

With a full-back and centre-back seemingly ticked off, Arteta’s shopping list now boasts simply a goalkeeper, midfielder and striker.

The Spaniard had a reported budget of £200 million to fund the rebuild, which also apparently included replacing inconsistent goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The German shot-stopper struggled for form last term, and Arteta is now looking to replace his number one.

Emiliano Martinez was let go of last summer, but has since gone on to impress during his debut season with Aston Villa and also won the Copa America with Argentina this summer.

Now, it appears that Arsenal may be lining up a move for a ‘keeper who is currently banned from all footballing activity.

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana is currently serving a 12 month ban for testing positive for a banned substance, but the 25-year-old is reportedly still a target for both Lyon and Arsenal.

Onana was handed a 12 month ban in February.

According to Ajax director of football Marc Overmars, Arsenal were interested in the Cameroonian.

“I’m not sure if we will get to a deal with Lyon,” Overmars told Voetbal International.

“There hasn’t been contact for a week. There was another club interested but they already got another goalie.

“Arsenal were also mentioned but I haven’t had any contact with them.”

The news comes as reports of Arsenal signing Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale have quietened.

The Gunners were linked with a £30 million for the Englishman, who has been relegated in successive seasons with Bournemouth and the Blades respectively.
