Premier League champions Arsenal face Girona in their first friendly of the summer on August 1, before a game against fellow Spanish side Real Betis four days later.

Mikel Arteta’s side cruised to the top flight title last term, winning the trophy for the first time in more than two decades.

The Gunners are yet to make a signing so far this summer, although Arteta and those in charge are likely to want to make additions to their squad before the start of the new season.

With that in mind, it is being reported that the north London outfit could sign an Argentina forward.

As per CaughtOffside, the representatives of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez have been told by the club that they could sanction a move to Arsenal this summer.

Alvarez was in fine form for Atletico last season – scoring 20 goals in 49 games in all competitions – and he has since been linked with a move to La Liga champions Barcelona.

The report suggests that French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Argentine, who is also on the radar of city rivals Real Madrid.

While Atletico would rather sell to Arsenal than one of their La Liga rivals, the report suggests that one of the Gunners’ biggest tasks will be persuading Alvarez to leave Spain.

The 26-year-old previously had a spell in England with Manchester City and scored 36 times in 103 games for the Citizens, as well as registering 19 assists.

While the versatile forward is under contract until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, it appears that Arsenal are trying to lure him to London this summer.

The report does claim, though, that a figure in excess of £170 million is likely to be beyond the amount that Arsenal are willing to pay for the player.
