Mikel Arteta’s side have endured a very mixed pre-season.

Arsenal’s list of friendlies started poorly as they were beaten 2-1 by Scottish Premier League side Hibernian in mid July.

They then followed it up with a 2-2 draw with Rangers, before heading back to the capital to face Millwall where they won 4-1.

A second consecutive 4-1 scoreline followed with an impressive performance against Premier League new boys Watford, before they returned to the Emirates for the pre-season ‘Mind Series’ involving Chelsea and Spurs.

They lost the first match 2-1 to Chelsea at the Emirates thanks to impressive finishes from Kai Havertz and Tammy Abraham.

This means it has been a pre-season of learning for Arteta and his staff, as they look to see who can drag Arsenal back into European qualifying contention.

But, according to 90min.com, one of those players who will not be on the journey with them is Joe Willock, with Newcastle United having a £25 million offer accepted.

Willock was on fire for the Magpies during his loan spell.

The 21-year-old was sent to the Magpies on loan in January for some much needed minutes and experience.

However, nobody could have predicted the youngster to make St James’ Park his own by scoring eight goals in 14 appearances for Steve Bruce’s side.

He even forced himself into contention for the initial England squad for Euro 2020, before just missing out.

Now the Magpies are keen on signing the youngster permanently, and it appears a deal for the creative midfielder has been accepted.

It is believed a deal between the two clubs has been struck, and it is now up to Willock to decide if he wants to sign permanently for Newcastle.
