Arsenal will go into the new Premier League season as one of the favourites to lift the title.

The Gunners haven’t won the top flight title in two decades, but Mikel Arteta’s side have finished as runners-up to Manchester City in each of the past two seasons, topping the standings for much of the campaign on both occasions.

The Spaniard will likely want to bolster his squad this summer ahead of next term, but it appears that the North London outfit are actually on the verge of selling one of their defenders.

As per Fabrizio Romano, full-back Nuno Tavares is on the verge of completing a move to Italian side Lazio.

Romano claims that the 24-year-old is set to join the Serie A side on an initial season-long loan, with the deal including an obligation-to-buy clause for a fee of around £7.5 million.

Tavares joined the Gunners from Portuguese side Benfica in 2021, having progressed through the Lisbon outfit’s youth academy.

Tavares spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest

The Portuguese has struggled to ever establish himself as a regular in Arteta’s side, and has therefore played just 28 times for the Gunners across all competitions since arriving in the capital.

The left-back spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest, and has also previously been loaned to French outfit Marseille.

Tavares’ contract is set to expire next summer, so it appears that Arsenal have decided to cash in on the player this summer in order to avoid losing him for free in 12 months.

Arsenal are also due to receive a sell-on percentage if Lazio ever sell the full-back, Romano claims.

It is also claimed that the player will travel to Rome in the coming days to undergo a medical and finalise the move.
