After the disappointment of missing out on Champions League football in the final weeks of last season, Arsenal have started the new campaign in superb form.

Mikel Arteta’s side have won six of their seven Premier League matches so far this season and sit top of the pile, a point ahead of both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite their strong start, it appears that Arteta is still planning ahead and looking to bolster his squad.

As reported by German outlet Bild via The Express, The Gunners have opened talks with the agent of Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom.

Lindstrom, 22, has been in fine form so far this season, scoring three goals in ten matches including the winner in Eintracht’s 1-0 victory over Marseille in the Champions League last week – their first win in the European Cup since it was rebranded.

The report claims that Arsenal are considering making a move for the player during the January transfer window, in an effort to bolster their squad ahead of the busy post-World Cup schedule ahead.

Denmark international Lindstrom was part of the Eintracht side that won the Europa League last season, beating Rangers on penalties in the final.

The attacker arrived from Brondby last summer for a reported fee of £6.3 million, and has since made 49 appearances for his current side, scoring eight goals and registering nine assists across all competitions.

Last term he made 39 appearances – including a start in the victory over the Scottish side – and was played on both flanks and as a number ten.

Arteta is not short of options in the positions that Lindstrom plays in, though.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have established themselves as regulars on either flank, while club captain Martin Odegaard looks irreplaceable in the advanced midfield role.

The likes of Emile Smith-Rowe and Fabio Vieira have been struggling for game time in the opening weeks of the season, although the latter did score a superb goal on his first Premier League start against Brentford on Sunday.
