Arsenal return to Premier League action when they face Brentford on Wednesday in their first match of 2025.

The Gunners defeated struggling Ipswich Town 1-0 last time out, courtesy of a Kai Havertz goal, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side third in the table.

The Spaniard will be relatively pleased with his side’s position in the standings, although the Gunners are six points behind leaders Liverpool who also boast a game-in-hand over their opponents.

Off the pitch, it appears that Arsenal are working to sign a Premier League defender.

According to CaughtOffside, the North London side have held talks with Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell about a possible move when his contract expires next summer.

The report claims that both Arsenal and rivals Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the left-back at the end of the current campaign.

Mitchell has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs

They will face significant competition for the player’s signature, though, as he is also said to be a target for AC Milan, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also all showing interest in the Englishman.

Mitchell is a product of the Eagles’ youth academy and has played more than 160 times for the club at senior level across all competitions.

He is fast approaching the end of his current contract, though, and the report suggests that he isn’t keen on extending his deal at Selhurst Park.

Mitchell would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any overseas club in January, with several clubs said to be interested.

Spanish giants Barcelona are said to have already held talks with the player, while Atletico boss Diego Simeone is said to have identified the Englishman as a target as he looks to bolster his squad.
