Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has a huge summer ahead having put pen-to-paper on a controversial two-year extension at The Emirates, with an overhaul of his playing staff in mind.

Across London and Premier League champions Chelsea also have a big few weeks on their hands as Antonio Conte looks to build a side capable of taking on the Champions League having already lifted the Premier League title.

With that in mind, according to reports from Spanish outlet Sport, the two rivals are gearing up their interest in wantaway Leicester star Riyad Mahrez.

The playmaker, who starred alongside Jamie Vardy in their title winning season, has made it clear he is on the way out of the King Power this summer, and is opening to offers.

The report also claims that the Gunners have taken their interest a step further and lodged an offer for the £25.5m-rated midfielder.

However, whilst Arsene Wenger and his officials have taken the initiative ahead of the Blues, Mahrez and his representatives are waiting for an approach for Spanish giants Barcelona.
