Liverpool will play Southampton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after beating Brighton and Hove Albion 3-2 on Wednesday night.

A Cody Gakpo brace and a goal from Luis Diaz ensured a narrow victory over the Seagulls, who were once again impressive under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

The Reds will be overwhelming favourites to defeat the Saints in the quarters and progress into the last four of the competition, as they look to defend their crown after beating Chelsea in last season’s final.

Off the pitch, it appears that the Merseyside outfit are interested in a Premier League forward.

According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

The report claims that both Arsenal and Newcastle United are also interested in the 25-year-old, who has started the new season in sensational form.

Mbeumo has started the season in fantastic form

Mbeumo has netted eight times in nine games for the Bees so far this term, taking his tally for the club to 58 in 211 games across all competitions.

The Cameroon international’s sensational start to the new season has attracted interest from the Reds, the Gunners and the Magpies, and the report suggests that Arsenal have taken a particular interest in the player.

Mbeumo is contracted to Brentford until the summer of 2026, but the West London outfit could face a battle to keep hold of the attacker beyond next summer with several clubs believed to be interested in signing him.

Arsenal are said to be studying Mbeumo’s stats and data and compiling reports before deciding upon whether or not to make a formal move for the Cameroonian.

It is claimed that Brentford could even receive bids for the player during the upcoming January transfer window, as he enters into the final 18 months of his contract.
