Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly entered the transfer battle to land Germany international midfielder Max Meyer, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League sides, who sit sixth and third in the English top-flight standings following their results against Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton respectively at the weekend, have both been linked with signing the FC Schalke 04 star this summer.

The 22-year-old, who has four senior international caps for his country, has scored one goal and provided one assist in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Meyer, who joined Schalke’s youth academy ranks back in 2009, has netted 22 goals in 188 first-team games for the German club overall.

However, the report claims Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has identified the central midfielder as a major transfer target at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, wanting him to team up with fellow countryman Mesut Ozil at the Emirates Stadium, meanwhile Liverpool are also said to be keeping close tabs on the German gem.

Meyer is out of contract this June, and is also attracting interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Serie A side AC Milan ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
