Liverpool’s Premier League title bid was dealt a huge blow on Wednesday as they were beaten 2-0 by rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Defender Jarrad Branthwaite put the hosts ahead at Goodison Park with a shot that squirmed under goalkeeper Alisson, before striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled their lead to all but ensure that the Toffees stay in the top flight next term.

It was a disastrous night for the Reds, though, with Jurgen Klopp’s side missing the chance to move level with league leaders Arsenal.

Instead, Liverpool must now rely on both Arsenal and Manchester to slip up if they are to be crowned champions next month.

Off the pitch, both Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly been scouting a Brazilain wonderkid.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, both clubs have been scouting 18-year-old Palmeiras star Luis Guilherme.

Guilherme scored his first senior goal for Palmeiras on Thursday

The attacker scored his first senior goal for Palmeiras on Thursday, netting in a 3-2 Copa Libertadores win over Independiente.

In total he has played 38 times for the club at senior level, and his impressive performances have attracted significant interest from Europe.

Romano claims that Arsenal, Liverpool, and German giants Bayern Munich have all scouted the teenager.

Guilherme is a versatile attacker capable of playing on either flank, as well as centrally.

Romano also claims that, despite rumours suggesting otherwise, Liverpool have not yet submitted an official offer for Guilherme.

The player does, though, have a release clause in his current contract that is set at around £47 million.
