Arsenal and Liverpool transfer target Leon Goretzka is on his way to the Premier League, according to Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff.

The Premier League rivals, who currently sit sixth and fifth in the English top-flight standings after their opening 11 league games, have both been heavily linked with the FC Schalke 04 midfielder ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 22-year-old, who has 12 international caps for his country, has scored four goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Goretzka, who has netted 19 goals in 128 games overall for Schalke, was not included in the Germany squad to face England at Wembley Stadium this evening having sat out the last two Bundesliga fixtures with a knock.

However, ahead of the international friendly, Germany chief Bierhoff hinted the central midfielder is on his way to the Premier League, with his current deal at Schalke set to expire in June 2018.

He said, via the Daily Mirror, “We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka are moving to England and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game.

“We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches.”

Goretzka is valued at £20.70m by transfermarkt.
