Manchester United will aim to win their first match of the Europa League campaign when they host Greek side PAOK on Thursday.

The Red Devils – then under the management of Erik ten Hag – failed to beat any of FC Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce in their opening three games of the group phase, but interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge for Thursday’s game.

The Dutchman is in temporary charge of United until the upcoming international break, when current Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim will take charge as Ten Hag’s permanent successor.

Now, it appears that United could aim to make a former Manchester City man one of Amorim’s first signings.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claims that both Man United and Premier League rivals Arsenal are interested in Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.

The Germany international is in the final year of his current contract with the German giants, and could therefore sign an agreement with any club outside of Germany in January before signing as a free agent next summer.

Sane is on the radars of both Manchester United and Arsenal

Plettenberg claims that the 28-year-old is focussed on staying put in Bavaria but that an agreement over an extension to his current deal isn’t yet close.

Both the Gunners and the Red Devils are therefore monitoring the former City man’s situation.

Sane departed The Etihad in 2020 to join Bayern, having enjoyed a hugely successful four-year spell in Manchester.

The winger scored 39 times and registered 43 assists in 125 games for the Citizens across all competitions during his time there, as well as winning seven trophies including two Premier League titles.

The German has registered a combined 101 goals and assists since his move to Bayern, but he hasn’t started any of their eight Bundesliga matches so far this season under new manager Vincent Kompany – one of his former teammates at Manchester City.
