Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Spain Under-21 international star Saul Niguez this summer, according to AS.

The Premier League giants, who face Tottenham and West Brom in the league respectively this weekend, have been put on red alert over the possibility of snapping up Atletico Madrid’s highly-rated midfielder at the end of the current 2015-16 campaign.

The 21-year-old, who is yet to earn his first full international cap for Spain, has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season.

Niguez; who came through Atletico’s youth academy, has reportedly stalled over a new deal at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, interesting Arsenal and United into firming up their interest in the central midfielder this summer.

Despite still having four years left on his current contract; fresh talks have been scampered by Niguez’s demands for an increase in wages to around £3.8m-a-year.

The report suggests that the Gunners and Red Devils are now ready to swoop for the Spanish star, who has a £18m buy-out clause.
