Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to go head-to-head in a race to sign Germany international star Leon Goretzka, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League rivals, who sat within one point of each other in the top-flight standings heading into this weekend’s action, have both been linked with the FC Schalke 04 midfielder ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The 22-year-old, who has 12 international caps for his country, has scored four goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Goretzka, who represented Germany at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, has netted 19 goals in 128 games overall for Schalke since arriving from Vfl Bochum back in June 2013.

The report suggests the North London rivals are both interested in securing the services of the German gem, though sources in his homeland suggest the attacking midfielder prefers a switch to defending Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich or La Liga giants FC Barcelona instead.
