Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head-to-head in a race to secure the signature of Argentina international forward Mauro Icardi this summer, according to Gianluca DiMarzio (via the Express).

The Premier League duo, who finished second and third in the English top-flight standings respectively last term after Leicester City won the title, are both understood to be attempting to lure the Inter Milan striker to London ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 23-year-old, who made his international debut against Uruguay back in October 2013, scored 16 goals and provided four assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit last season.

Icardi, who arrived at the San Siro following his move from fellow Italian club Sampdoria in 2013, is also said to be attracting interest from Spanish side Atletico Madrid this transfer window.

The reports suggest that a £38m offer is being prepared by the Gunners and Spurs, as the North London rivals look to battle it out for the Argentine’s services.
