Arsenal have already been busy in the summer transfer window, with boss Mikel Arteta hoping to bolster his squad ahead of next term.

The Gunners narrowly missed out on their first Premier League title in nearly a decade last season, with Manchester City eventually beating them to top spot.

Following that, Arteta and those in charge of the club are now working hard to add new players to the squad ahead of next season.

The likes of Declan Rice, Romeo Lavia and Kai Havertz have all been heavily linked with a move to The Emirates, but it appears that the Gunners are now working on a move for a Dutch defender.

According to David Ornstein, Arsenal are working on a deal for Ajax star Jurrien Timber.

The report claims that the Gunners have submitted a £30m bid to try and bring the 22-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the Dutch giants have reportedly set a £50M price tag on the defender.

Timber is a target for Arsenal this summer

Timber joined the youth system at Ajax from fellow Dutch side Feyenoord back in 2014 and made his senior debut for the club in 2020.

The defender has now made more than 120 appearances for the Eredivisie giants, but his impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Traditionally a central defender, Timber is also capable of playing at right-back which might make him an even more attractive prospect for Arteta.

The Gunners are apparently leading the race for the Netherlands international, with personal terms reportedly in place ahead of the proposed switch.

It is also believed that both clubs are optimistic that a fee can be agreed, despite the current difference between their respective valuations of the player.

Timber has two years left on his contract at the Johan Cruijff Arena, but he looks unlikely to stay in Amsterdam beyond this summer.
