Former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks to be close to putting an end to his nightmare spell with the club, by joining Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Gabonese striker was stripped of the Gunners captaincy at the start of December and has not played for the club since, but he is now close to joining the Catalan club on loan.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the striker will take a huge pay cut to join the La Liga side, but the move does hinder on Barcelona first offloading Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on Monday having agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 club, and that would allow Barcelona to then move to confirm a deal for Aubameyang.

Aubameyang is hoping to sort a move away from Arsenal by taking a pay cut

According to the report, Aubameyang is willing to see a huge reduction in his salary, and will be playing for ‘practically nothing’ in Spain.

The 32-year-old’s desire to join the club centres around him wanting to reiterate his position as one of the world’s best strikers.

Barcelona’s salary cap limits what they can offer him, however, although it appears that he isn’t bothered about his wage.

Aubameyang’s willingness to take a pay cut will be crucial to allowing a deal to be agreed, as Arsenal were reluctant to continue paying any of his £350,000-per-week wages and were struggling to find potential suitors who were willing to shoulder it either.
