Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta prevented playmaker Mesut Ozil from leaving Arsenal for Qatari team in January, according to 90min.

Ozil was surrounded by transfer speculation last summer, as many reports suggested that the North London club were trying to offload their number 10’s £350,000-a-week wages from their books.

Adding to the fact, was former manager Unai Emery did not play the Germany international regularly and almost never trusted him in Arsenal’s bigger games.

Unai Emery was sacked after just 18 months in charge.

Since the arrival of Spaniard and former player Mikel Arteta, has started Ozil in the majority of games, although the club’s highest paid player has still not reached his top form.

Despite this, 90min are reporting that Arteta blocked a potential move from an unnamed Qatari side in January, choosing to keep Ozil in his playing squad.
