Arsenal booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Spanish side Girona on Wednesday.

Former Tottenham forward Arnaut Danjuma gave the hosts a shock lead, before midfielder Jorginho drew the visitors level from the penalty spot.

Youngster Ethan Nwaneri then produced a fine strike to put Mikel Arteta’s side in front, and the Gunners held on to confirm their automatic qualification for the last 16.

In the build up to the game, it was reported by BBC Sport that Arsenal had lodged an offer for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, which was rejected by the Villans.

According to CaughtOffside, though, the North London side have now turned their interest away from Watkins and are pursuing other attacking targets.

The report claims that those in charge of the Gunners’ recruitment are now pursuing a move for either Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic, or RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

It is claimed that, having failed in their attempts to sign England international Watkins, Arsenal are now focusing on Vlahovic and Sesko.

Sesko is a target for Arsenal

Vlahovic had been a target for Manchester United who has proposed a swap deal including Joshua Zirkzee, but the move never materialised.

Arteta, however, has always had his sights set on Slovenia international Sesko, the report claims.

While Leipzig are reluctant to sell the 21-year-old and will not reduce their asking price for the player, Arsenal may benefit from the German club’s early exit from the Champions League which could prompt the player to push for a move away.

Sesko joined Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2023 and has since scored 32 goals in 70 matches across all competitions.

The report also suggests that, if they fail to sign a new striker, Arsenal will look to land a replacement for injured winger Bukayo Saka.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo are named as players that are of interest to the Gunners, but it may prove too late for the North London side to agree and finalise a move for either player as they are extremely important to their respective current clubs.
