Arsenal are reportedly close to agreeing a new contract with Germany international star Mesut Ozil, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday (15:00), have been working hard to try and convince the midfielder to commit his future to The Gunners, with his current deal expiring this June.

The 29-year-old, who has 88 international caps for his country, has scored four goals and provided five assists in 18 league appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side so far this season.

Ozil, who arrived at the Emirates back in September 2013 following his then club-record £42.5m switch from Real Madrid, has netted 36 times in 179 games overall for the North London outfit, winning three FA Cups with Arsenal.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere is also set to agree a new deal at Arsenal.

However, the German ace is yet to extend his stay with The Gunners beyond this summer, but the report claims the club are set to agree fresh terms on a contract extension with Ozil, as well as fellow midfielder Jack Wilshere, before the end of the current 2017-18 campaign.

Ozil has been linked with a free transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester United this summer.
