Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal for ex-Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports in Spain.

The Spanish striker is currently on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid, but the Serie A side have rejected the chance to make his two-year spell a permanent one and the Gunners have moved in.

As per Sport, the London club are ‘very close’ to signing the Spanish international in a deal worth around £25 million.

Juventus, who Morata has scored 20 league goals for since joining two years ago, were quoted £30 million to make the striker’s loan deal permanent, but refused the chance to do so.

Arsenal have acted quickly, though, and are now in pole position to land the forward.

Morata moved from Real Madrid to Juventus in 2014, but returned to the Spanish side two years later.

Morata has played for four clubs in six years

He then joined Chelsea a year later, and scored 12 goals in 72 games for the Blues before departing for Atletico Madrid, initially on loan and then on a permanent deal, after just two seasons in west London.

It appears that Juventus have no plans to keep the striker though, despite him scoring 59 goals in 185 games for the club.

The Serie A side lost Cristiano Ronaldo last summer and look set to lose Paolo Dybala this summer, but will look elsewhere to replace the Argentine.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have been in talks with the agents of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus over a potential deal and, while it was reported that talks had advanced, it now appears that they are prioritising Morata instead.
